Kavala

Kavala (Greek: Καβάλα), is the second largest city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit. It is situated on the Bay of Kavala, across from the island of Thasos. Kavala is located on the Egnatia motorway and is a two-hour drive to Thessaloniki (160 km west) and forty minutes drive to Drama (37 km north) and Xanthi (56 km east).

    It was the second largest refugee settlement of Kavala and was developed in the eastern part of the city and particularly east of the district at that time bore the name "Chamidie" on an area of 45 acres. The settlement mentioned as Kallithea or "Five hundred" because all the rooms built and in which were housed 500 family groups. It concerned about 96 residential units, of which 87 are preserved nowadays.
